Rot & Damage Repair North County San Diego

Porch Column with Brick Base

A plain, rot-prone porch post given a brick pedestal base, which protects the wood where it meets the ground and gives the entry some presence.

The project

The post that carried the porch roof sat directly on the pavers, which is exactly where posts rot. It was also visually thin for the size of the entry.

Levi built a brick pedestal with a cap at the base, shortened and re-set the post on a standoff so it never sits in water, and repainted the post and beam to match the trim. The result reads as original to the house.
