Pergolas North County San Diego
Entry Pergola Rebuild
A weathered, rotting entry trellis replaced with a new cedar-toned pergola that frames the arched doorway it was always meant to.

The project
The original pergola over the entry had split beams, failing joints, and a corner post that had rotted through at the top. It was past saving, but the idea was right.
Levi rebuilt it in the same footprint with heavier beams, properly lapped joints, and a tighter rafter spacing, then finished it in a warm natural tone that works with the stucco and the arched entry behind it.

Materials, challenges and highlights
Materials and finishes
- Select kiln-dried structural lumber
- Lapped and through-bolted joints
- Penetrating exterior stain
Highlights
- Same footprint, stronger structure
- Proportions corrected
- Finish chosen to warm the stucco
Challenges and solutions
Matching the footprint and height exactly so the new structure met the existing roofline and the arch the way the old one did, while fixing the proportions that had made the original look spindly.
