Custom decks, pergolas and wood restoration in Encinitas
Including Leucadia, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Olivenhain.
Working in Encinitas
Encinitas sits just south of Carlsbad, so it is a short drive from Levi's home base down the coast highway or Interstate 5. It is also one of the more varied places in North County to work, because Leucadia, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, and Olivenhain each ask something different of exterior wood.
Leucadia and old Encinitas have a lot of beach cottages and homes from the mid-century onward, with wood siding, decks, and fences that sit right in the salt air. Cardiff adds bluff-top and hillside homes where the wind and spray are relentless and a west-facing deck or front door fails faster than anywhere inland. Olivenhain is the opposite: larger lots, a semi-rural feel, equestrian properties, long runs of fencing, and room for freestanding pergolas and bigger decks. Levi brings the same approach to all of it: design the structure to suit the house, pick materials for the exposure, and build it so it lasts.
Good to know in Encinitas
- Direct ocean exposure. Homes west of the 101 and along the Cardiff bluffs see salt spray almost daily. Expect to refresh clear finishes more often, and lean on hardwoods, composites, and stainless hardware for anything that faces the water.
- Older cottages. Leucadia in particular has original wood siding, trim, and porches worth restoring. A careful repair that matches the existing profile often beats replacement.
- Larger properties inland. Olivenhain fences, gates, and shade structures are often sized for acreage rather than a city lot. Levi can design and build at that scale.
- Permits. Encinitas handles building permits through its Development Services department. Check with the city's Building Division at encinitasca.gov before starting a deck, attached cover, or structural repair, and ask Levi what your project is likely to need.

Questions
Working with Levi in Encinitas
Is Encinitas within your normal service area?
Yes. Encinitas borders Carlsbad to the south, and Leucadia, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, and Olivenhain are all a short drive from Levi's home base. It is one of the easiest cities for him to reach.
What holds up best on a bluff-top or beachfront deck?
Direct salt spray calls for materials that do not mind it: dense hardwoods or quality composite decking, stainless steel fasteners, and a finish schedule you will actually keep up with. Levi will walk you through the trade-offs for your exposure before recommending anything.
Can you repair rather than replace an old wood fence or porch?
Often, yes. If the posts are sound and the damage is limited to rails, pickets, or a few boards, a matched repair is the better value and keeps the character of the house. If the rot has reached the structure, Levi will say so and show you.
